A true love’s curse: Jujutsu Kaisen Zero arrives in Singapore this March

A highly-anticipated prequel to the hit anime series, Jujutsu Kaisen (呪術廻戦), will be hitting cinemas in Singapore with the movie Jujutsu Kaisen: Zero (劇場版 呪術廻戦 0 Gekijōban Jujutsu Kaisen Zero) on 10 March 2022. Based on the manga of the same title by Akutami Gege (芥見下々), it is the first movie adaptation of the popular series. It follows Okkotsu Yuta (乙骨憂太), a student who becomes a sorcerer and seeks to control the cursed spirit of his childhood girlfriend.

The original manga has been serialised in “Weekly Shonen JUMP”, 17 volumes of Jujutsu Kaisen have been published and over 60 million copies have been sold. The TV anime adaptation has set the highest ratings of MBS/TBS late-night anime of all time, and the original manga series and the anime continues to set off a trend with the announcement of Season 2 set to be released in 2023.

Additionally, fans’ screenings will be held exclusively at Golden Village Plaza Singapura over three weekends (5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20 March). Each ticket comes with a set of exclusive premiums featuring different items ranging from tote bags and ez-link cards each week. Tickets cost $38 for GV Movie Club members and $42 for members of the public.

However, we’ve been told that tickets have sold out quickly. But we have some good news for those who have missed out on the screenings:

JAPAN RAIL CAFE will be hosting a giveaway on 7-13 March on their Facebook and Instagram pages where JJK fans can stand a chance to win a set of premiums consisting of a Jujutsu Kaisen: Zero movie poster, postcard set, badge set, and sticker set.

In conjunction with the release of the movie in Singapore, a limited-time Jujutsu Kaisen: Zero exhibition will also be held from 1 to 20 March 2022 at Plaza Singapura’s Level 1 Main Atrium. Take this opportunity to “meet” the six main characters in the film–Okkotsu Yuta, Gojo Satoru (五条悟), Inumaki Toge (狗巻棘), Zen’in Maki (禪院真希), Panda (パンダ), and Geto Suguru (夏油傑).

As a fan of the manga and anime itself, I’ve been wanting to watch Jujutsu Kaisen: Zero ever since it was released in Japan last Christmas. Thanks to our friends at Golden Village, I had the privilege of watching a sneak preview of the movie, and I would say it was definitely worth the wait and the hype! I felt MAPPA (the animation studio for Jujutsu Kaisen) did an amazing job bringing some of my favourite characters to life on the big screen with amazingly choreographed fight scenes and touching backstories on the characters.

Even if you have not been following the series, I highly recommend you to check out this movie once it hits cinemas!
