2020 Pokemon and Mister Donut collaboration: featuring Chansey

For the third time, Japan’s Mister Donut is teaming up with Pokémon to bring the digital creatures to life as edible creations. It’s not hard to figure out why this year’s star of the show is the Pokémon Chansey. It represents healing, care and its original Japanese name is ラッキー (lucky). Enough reasons why Mister Donut chose this Pokémon to bring holiday cheer for their Christmas collection.

Just like every year, the ever so popular Pikachu doughnut makes a comeback. The flavours have been renewed, substituting banana chocolate for pudding chocolate with a custard and whipped cream filling. When you pick up your doughnut, be sure to keep an eye out for the special sparkling eyes version. We were lucky to find one when we visited the local Mister Donut.

Underneath the strawberry chocolate glazing of Chansey is Mister Donut’s famous “Pon de Ring” (ポン•デ•リング). A Japanese favourite because of its chewy resemblance to mochi “rice cakes”. The egg is actually a small doughnut with whipped cream filling. A surprising little secret.

This year’s version of Poké Ball-shaped doughnut changed from a flat version to a simple red-glazed choux-crème with whipped cream accompanied by an Ultra Ball with custard whipped cream. Using the same flavour combinations, the limited Christmas collection also has three new Pon de Ring doughnuts in strawberry, pudding and chocolate.

The Pokémon doughnut were larger than expected and come in adorable cardboard stands promoting the newest Sword and Shield Pokémon game.
